Realistic Landscape Modelling with High Level of Detail

چکیده

An approach for generating realistic 3D models of natural landscapes from overlapping aerial images is presented. Based on stereoscopic correspondence analysis a 3D terrain model is computed. The 3D reconstruction of a scene from 2D projections is underconstrained and details are lost due to occlusion and image resolution. The ambiguity and lack of detail is overcome by integrating a priori knowledge about the scene in the modelling process using image interpretation. Segmentation of linear features employs edge detection, and segmentation of areal features uses region growing based on a statistical texture model. Knowledge about object geometry is used to model continuous surfaces separately and to force height steps at discontinuities as forest edges. For visualization the landscape model is approximated by a polygon mesh with overlaid photo texture.

Automated Generation and Realtime Display of Forested Virtual Environments

We present a system for automatic generation and real-time rendering of forested virtual environments. We produce realistic, eroded landscapes and place tree objects in the scene using ecosystem modelling techniques. The tree objects are generated from L-System models to produce closed triangle meshes. These are used to produce a set of discrete level of detail models, which are converted to tr...

Level of Detail Technique for Plant Models

Realistic modelling and interactive rendering of forestry and landscape is a challenge in computer graphics and virtual reality. Recent new developments in plant growth modelling and simulation lead to plant models faithful to botanical structure and development, not only representing the complex architecture of a real plant but also its functioning in interaction with its environment. Complex ...

Outcomes of applying a geopedologic approach to soil survey in Iran

The paper reviews a set of soil surveys carried out in Iran using a geopedologic approach for different surveying aims in different scales. Most of these studies have implemented a similar survey method including the following steps: delineation of landforms from air photos using geomorphic and soil-landscape relationships, field check of the delineations, sample areas inventory with soils clas...

Silvicolous on a Small Scale: Possibilities and Limitations of Habitat Suitability Models for Small, Elusive Mammals in Conservation Management and Landscape Planning

Species distribution and endangerment can be assessed by habitat-suitability modelling. This study addresses methodical aspects of habitat suitability modelling and includes an application example in actual species conservation and landscape planning. Models using species presence-absence data are preferable to presence-only models. In contrast to species presence data, absences are rarely reco...

Assessment of Landscape Connectivity and Prediction of Migration Corridors for the Baluchistan Black Bear (Ursus thibetanus gedrosianus Blanford, 1877) in the Southeastern Habitats, Iran

The Baluchistan Black Bear (BBB), a critically endangered subspecies (CR), is distributed in the southeastern Iran. Modelling of landscape connectivity of the BBBs among habitat patches can be insightful for the conservation managers working in Iran. Our study was designed to identify the potential corridors among 31 habitat patches of the BBBs in Iran using the circuit theory method. Habitat s...
